while browsing through folders, if i need to click on an open folder to bring it as the active folder of several apps open, i always seem to pic illustration open a folder i don't want too. Do you see what I'm talking about? How do i reduce the folder activation area???

Have you got the automatic "double-click" function enabled in Vista?

You can turn that off in the "Folder Options" menu (change it to "Double-click to open an item (single-click to select").

Start/ and then enter "Control Folders" in the Vista search box to directly access the Folder Options menu.

Yes, I've already got it to single click. Then I got to the search bar, and type itn "control folders"?

EDIT: did you see the pic? that blue area is too big

I looked at the Picture. It looks like a normal Vista Explorer window. Maybe I'm missing something?

You've got it set to the top selection ("Single click to open an item") or the bottom selection ("Double-click to open an item")?

Sorry, I still don't see the visual issue you are referring too. But if you change the Folder Options to "Double-click to open an item", it would seem that would fix your primary problem (opening a folder you don't want to open).

Look at the highlighted folders. In XP its just the folder, in Vista its the folder and the area to the right of it. In XP if i click the folder it will open up. In Vista, if i click the area to the right of the folder it will open the folder Which is what I don't want it to do. I only want it to work like in XP.

open regedit

under the key:
[HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced]

create a new REG_DWORD value named FullRowSelect. Leave the data as 0x0

thats it
