Vista HDD free space help

i got a t61 not to long ago and have been having some confusion about the available hdd space. i got it with the 100gb hdd and i know that in windows its not actually 100gb but like 90ish.

the problem im facing is, if i select all the files (including the hidden files) in the C😀rive (i have no other drives) it shows that there is 20gbs worth of data. so technically, considering the space vista and backup files take, i should have at least 50-60gbs left.

it states that i only have 10gbs left. i have no idea where the other 40+ gbs went. and sometimes the available C😀rive space fluctuates even though i havent downloaded or installed anything. anyone experience this problem as well? any help would be appreciated. thanks in advance.

Are you sure it hasn't been partitioned?

What os?
If xp/vista -

administrative tools
computer management
disk management

yea, im sure its not partitioned ... ive never faced this problem before, then again i've never really worked with vista so i was wondering if it was a vista error. (sorry about the happy faces, meant to say c : drive)

just checked again ... all files including hidden files totals 30gbs of 87.7 total gbs. available gbs lists as 7.4gbs. anyone know whats going on?

If left uncontrolled, Vista can gobble up a ton of space with shadow files and system restore files. If the T61 is like my new T60, there is a "hidden" partition containing about 5.5 GB of Lenovo blue button stuff.

We had a lenovo around here that was doing the same thing, had something to do with the lenovo backup utility (or something like that). It just kept sucking up space, but you couldn't see the files anywhere. I don't remember the exact details, but it was some pre-installed lenovo app that was responsible
