Vista hardware compatibility...

...I buy a whole new PC in the summer that has a DC Opteron, 7800, and 2 GB memory. (PC, XP PRO OS, monitor, everything).

Vista comes out. I am sure I won't buy it the first month it comes out, but probably 6 months-year until I get it.

What would I have to upgrade to fully meet the demands of the new OS? For my initial PC build, I will try to get a HDCP monitor (2407). To play the latest games on Vista, I will have to get a DX10 card. That's the monitor and video card, but what about the CPU and RAM? Will they have full compatibility with Vista? Will I have to upgrade to something like AM2 to make Vista work like the top systems that have XP now?

I also want to know if HDDs, keyboards, and mouses, etc, will have compatibility with Vista. For HDDs, I am aiming for a small raptor and another WD that has ~300GB space.

I want to know this because I probably won't be upgrading anything for at least half a year once i get my new PC. Is this all unknown because it's too early to decide or something? Thanks for any suggestions. 🙂

What Microsoft Says...

As far as HDD, whatever you buy now will work w/ Vista. Keyboards and mice will work (to get them to work fully, you may need the related software from the mfg. which I presume will provide the Vista software/drivers when released).
