Vista Halo 2 support for gamepads

I'm used to playing FPS's on a console and wanted to use my Saitek P880 gamepad on Halo 2, but the game only seems to support the Microsoft pad. There is no option to customize the button layout, and the game has mine all messed up to render it useless for playing with the button layout/joystick functions. So I ask, does Halo 2 support gamepads other than its own?

I've been using a keyboard and mouse, unfortunately, all I have to game on in this laptop. And I never have a suitable surface to set a mouse on. So I was really hoping to use a gamepad on it.
