Vista Gaming Will be Slower than XP

According to The Inquirer, MS is telling selected gaming industry insiders that gaming under Vista will be ten to fifteen per cent slower than XP, apparently because the new 3D desktop has to be loaded all the time.

Another step back cleverly disguised as a setp forward from the kind folks in Redmond, Washington.

thanks Anandtech and a million other sites have already run bencmarks showing this.
However, exactly how are you going to run those DX10 games only in XP?

"Step backwards..blah blah"

standard "I hate MS" banter

They will use that statement to make us buy powerful DX10 cards! Do you see it now?!!

Some BestBuy sales dude:
"ummm...your Geforce 7900GTX won't be able to run AERO effectively as a Geforce 8800GTX will...since thats old technology"

Me:
Slaps salesman on head...hahahaha!! funny salesman!
😀

So alternative OS gaming will be faster? Oh, wait, that's right...

Yes, that's what it sounds like... Windows XP and Windows 2000 are alternative OSes.

That's right?? Might not be "faster" but not any slower.. And I won't have to pay hundreds of dollars for the OS.. I have very few problems getting most games to run in Ubuntu...

How much more resources does XP/2000 require over Win95? Or OS X over MacOS 7.1? It is just a natural progression.

Oddly Vista will require less. What is the point of rendering every window on your screen and getting things properly placed then sending a bitmap over to your $500 graphics card???

Vista is going to ship the work over to the graphics card to begin with.

More eye candy AND less CPU overhead!

People. Do NOT read the Inquirer. They are full of sh1t.

No. DX10 requires a driver architecture that is not available in XP.

The real benefits of DX10 will become apparent over the long haul anyway. You'll see your DX10 friends have some nifty stuff that DX9 doesn't have initially but it won't blow your mind or anything.
