How much resources do the various vista gadgets use in terms of gaming performance and overall performance?

I use the weather gadget and the computer/ram gauge (that shows how much cpu and ram you use).

Windows Desktop Manager gets turned-off as soon as a game loads, so I don't think this is a problem.

I wasn't aware the Windows Sidebar was linked to WDM. Then again, I don't use the Vista sidebar

I have Yahoo Widgets running in the background and they don't seem to have any effect on my gaming.

Honestly - I just assumed the sidebar is linked to WDM. 😛

But if you don't experience inexplicable "stuttering" in games, it is not a problem.

My computer scores about 8,000 PCMark05 points, and all that with the NIS 2007 and other processes running (about 70 in Task Manager), basically same score as in XP.

The only program I disable for gaming or testing is the WinPatrol.

Where did you hear this?

I have 2 monitors running and the desktop is definitely not switched off while I game... especially the sidebard.
