Vista File Sharing Wants a password...

Alright, so I have some WinXP boxes and Linux boxes with samba on my network. I installed Vista Business on my laptop to try it out. So when I goto connect to a computer under workgroup and so on, it prompts me for the password, so I enter in the password I setup on the computer sharing the files. No go. No go on the samba computer/samba password either. Well it turns out if i get mad and try it over and over again about 30 times it does eventually work.......

Vista has all the proper drivers installed, and all windows updates.

Anyone have any idea? File sharing works perfect between all the other machines..

If there is one thing that proves how evil MS is it is definitly their implementation of SMB. I'm sorry I can't help you. Hopefully there is a workaround :-\

You can turn off password protected sharing under the network and sharing center. Dunno if this will work with samba, but it spared my girlfriend the hassle of needing a password to print on my shared printer and it prevented me from having to make a user account on my Vista box for her to access it.

I know I can, I need it anyhow. But of course I tried this to see if it'd help. Nope still wants a password... 🙁

When you share your files they have to be set to share to "Everyone". If they are and it still doesn't work try enabling the guest account.

try just entering the password in the login frame, and leave the password frame blank. i dont know why but it works for me
