I recently purchased a Dell Studio 15 (1537) laptop that came with Vista Home Premium. I would like to setup a dual boot with WinXP Pro and also learn how to backup my data using Vista. (Been using WinXP Pro up to now.)

1. DUAL BOOT:
Have any of you installed a dual boot on a Dell PC with Vista first and WinXP second? If so, is there a website that has step-by-step instructions that you used?

BTW, I contacted Dell support and was told that if I install a dual boot, it would void Dell's software warranty on my laptop.

2. BACKING UP DATA ON A DELL PC RUNNING VISTA:
I normally partition my hard drive into (OS and programs) and (Data Only) partitions. Then I use Acronis True Image to backup the data partition. --- *** BUT Dell support just told me that they do not support partitioning the hard drive and doing so would void my software warranty. ***

That being the case, I googled using Vista to back up files. I read that Vista does not allow the user to select files to backup, it only allow selecting file types to back up. This could work for me since I normally backup all of my data files anyway. BUT, I also read that Vista does not compress data to the backup device (an external eSata drive in my case). This is a bad thing! ----- How are you Vista Home Premium users backing up your data?
