Hello all,
Recently, I acquired the 'Smart Antivirus 2009' virus. This virus did something to my system to make it such that I cannot have a desktop wallpaper (it is just black), and did something odd to my thumbnails in most folders (e.g. either they have disappeared and left a white space, or are just icons). I have tried the following with no luck:
1. attempted to clean manually - deleted root folder, deleted registry keys created as stated on other forums
2. purchased, downloaded, ran deep scan of BitDefender 2008
3. compared my registry entries with another copy of vista to find one that may be wrong specifically pertaining to the wallpaper
4. attempted to re-infect with same virus with new virus scanner installed in hopes that it would remove all of it instead of just blocking it.
5. changed registry wallpaper keys that give the path of wallpaper file
6. cried.
At this point, the damage is purely cosmetic, and in retrospect, I should have had a virus scanner active in the first place. That being said, are there any ideas other than a repair install of vista?
Thanks!
