Ok so I have been running Vista 32bit for over a year, with zero problems. The other day I decided to try out Vista 64bit so I install it and get it all updated and everything is working fine, the sound works, the video drivers are working its great. So after about 2 days of it being fine, I am surfing along and all of a sudden my screen freezes then goes black, after which about a minute a blue screen appeared and it said something about nvagp.dll problem.
So I think its my driver, I uninstall the driver in safe mode go back into vista and its working fine until I set the resolution to 1920X1200 then after about 30seconds my screen goes black and blue screen again.

Now I am frustrated and say screw 64bit Im going back to 32. So I am installing 32bit and now when it comes to the end of the install where it scans your computers performance the thing freezes. I restart and that reallly screwed something up because it tryed to do the performance again and it froze.

So I try installing from scratch again, this time it gets to about 19% of expanding files, and then an error comes up saying it cant find some files.

I am scared it broke some hardware now, because this never happened before.

My computer is AMD 3500+, 3gb ram, nvidia 6800GT AGP, gigabyte motherboard nforce3 ultra.

I would appreciate any help!

Thanks!

Try removing and re-seating your RAM and graphics card.
Then run MemTest and let it run overnight for multiple passes.

Do you think the video card went crappy, I cant imagine why it would, I havent messed around with the inside of my case forever, unless it just died on its own, its watercooled and the cooler is working just fine so its not like its overheating either. If my video card is boinked I will be mad.

This is a very common problem with Vista. The flashing black screen is Vista "rebooting" your graphics drivers. do a google search on "display driver stops working". This 'feature' is supposed to stop crashing / BSOD due to graphics cards. Although it seems to be more of a headache then it's worth. There are 1001 theories as to why it happens (bad RAM, using more then 1 stick of RAM, etc.), and 1001 'fixes', which one will work for you is a crap shoot.

I think my video card may have died. I will try a new one tommorow when I get out to the store. Could this be anything else?

Very much sounds like a faulty hardware issue since Vista won't even load so its before even Vista trys to boot, could be number of things from video card, faulty ram, cpu, motherboard etc..you just have to rule them out one at a time,my guess is the video card.

Normally when hardware becomes faulty you normally see first signs when you are in the OS regardless of whether its XP or Vista and from your symptoms very much seems to be the case.

Could be the hard drive. If you do happen to get into vista run a volume check on your hard drive. I also think you can do this from dos but can't remember how....If you have access to another computer google it....
