Vista CompletePC Backup Tip: wbadmin.exe

Vista's CompletePC backup option doesn't expose non-local devices as backup targets (e.g. no NAS, other PC's, etc...) or allow you to choose which volumes to image.

The wbadmin command line tool will allow you to do both, so you can backup to a network address and specify which drives to backup.

You can also schedule your complete pc backups by calling wbadmin in task scheduler. I've got my Media Center box backing up my OS/pics/music drive to an external drive weekly (while recorded tv drive can live or die).

Of course, once WHS is released, I'll probably stop doing this and get a WHS box to do the job (don't feel like changing my current setup for the beta version).
