Vista cannot use wireless

I have a trendnet usb adapter that works well with XP using their software utility. For Vista, the utility is not supported and trendnet says to basically establish a connection using Windows wireless configuration. However when I try, it finds my wireless router but when I enter the passphrase, it says its not correct. I also tried entering the xx-digit long passkey but that didnt work either. I am using a netgear wireless-G router and my wep key security is set to 128-bit. In XP I just have to enter the passphrase and it connects automatically.

Is Vista telling you its detecting wep, wpa, etc? Did you enter the binary passphrase as exactly 26 chars?

its detecting wep and asks me to enter the passphrase. I entered the 26 chars but it didnt work. Anyone familiar with netgear's router? On the router config page, it asks me to enter a phrase(word) and then based on that it generates 4 keys, and I can select between them. Does all 4 work or only the one selected?

Only the one selected. Does the router have a WPA option?

Yes it does tkip/aes/tkip+aes

Unless you have other non-compat devices try WPA and see if that works.
