Vista Business

Not at once of course but i read a while ago that once installed it will look at hardware and not allow that specific key to reg with any other hardware?

Is this true cause I got vista business but my machine is a bit weak for vista and i wont use it often till i get better hardware. BUT i want to try it out now

Suggestions?

ow many times can I install Windows on my computer before I have to activate Windows again?

You can reinstall Windows on the same computer as many times as you want because activation pairs the Windows product key with information about your computer's hardware. If you make a significant hardware change, you might have to activate Windows again.

meaning i have to pay again?

Does this mean that you can install everytime you upgrade ?

ok so its oem

but that link is cool to extend trial rearm lol

is office the same deal with the reinstall on a upgraded computer IE mobo

What makes you say that?

Cause it was free from powertogether.com and they sent a OEM copy according to fatwallet forum

It's not oem, it a not for resale copy that for all intents and purposes is retail. You just can't legally sell it to anyone else.

Mark Brown, the MS Marketing guy who was the brainchild of the Powertogether promotion confirmed on several occasions in the Channel 9 forums that the copy of Vista Business sent out during the promotion is, in fact, retail.

Same goes for Office 2007 Pro which was given out too. This is nice since retail versions of Office 07 allow you to install on a desktop computer and a mobile computer with the same license. Great for people with a fixed and mobile workstation like me! 😀

Reading license agreements is interesting. Sometimes you'll find that a licenses is LESS restrictive than originally thought.

wow what a freakin HOT DEAL i signed up for this the day it was posted but thought it was a scam .... sure am glad i signed up. I guess i will install on dual boot and try out this crap ... again

I think dual booting is the only way to go at this point. I'm going to keep XP and Vista until I'm sure everything I use is compatible, then I'll probably dual Boot Vista32 and 64. Tbh I haven't been in XP for a couple of weeks. I hardly ever use it. My 1 game I couldn't get working in Vista(Fable) is now working, so I'll probably never go to XP.

Btw, you can order 64bit Vista for a $10 shipping and handling fee. I got my copy a month or so ago, but it'll be awhile before I'll install it.

man you must have a killer machine or you dont play any intensive games... cause nearly 60% of my memory (1GB) is used up just running IE and ICQ (yeah i use icq lol)

anyways thanks for all the comments i am pretty happy this is retail

anything i should download for this that is pretty cool or i must have type of thing

I don't game a whole lot. I have a very narrow field of interest. Mostly fps' and the occasional other game. I have Oblivion installed, and it seems to run fairly well. I haven't gotten around to playing it yet though. I mostly play UT2k4 and it runs great except for 1 map that has a bunch of particle effects. That really hammers my card hard and I get in the 20s in some areas. I imagine that'll get straightened out in the coming months, I never finished the Doom3 expansion. I should install that and see how it runs. I'm using 1920*1200 for a screen res, so that doesn't help my performance any. I guess I could use monitor scaling so I wouldn't lose image quality, but I really like the big screen. I may try that as a last resort.

I can't think of any must have software. Just check for updated drivers and stuff. Most of the software I used on XP works fine in Vista. The only thing that broke was Nero, and Antivir. I'll use the built in burner, or Deepburner when I need to burn cds. I'm using AVG for antivirus. I prefer Antivir, but they don't have a Vista program yet. I think they're planning on an April release, so I'll get it then.

Oh, I also can't overclock my gfx yet. Nvidias Ntune won't let me overclock, it says the clock speed test fails, but I had the speeds much higher in XP. I'm hoping that gets straightened out soon. That would help make up for the reduced performance of the drivers.

Can you trade it? Say, for instance, trade the Vista Business (Power Together) for someones Vista Home Premium?

I haven't read the EULA in great detail, but I would say no. If you did do that I doubt the FBIs gonna come knocking at your door 😛 I also don't think MS would really care. The DVDs aren't physically tied to a particular user, so if someone wanted to trade with you I'd go ahead and do it. If you do trade, make sure you're getting a retail or upgrade edition in exchange. Otherwise you may get stuck with a oem copy that's legally only good for 1 computer. People seem to have good success moving oem from machine to machine, but that violates the EULA in a big way. much more serious than trading copies with another person imo.
