Vista Business taking 14+ hours to configure updates...why?

We have a pc here at work that runs Vista Business. A week ago we ran one of the updates. Since then every time we shut down the pc it says "Configuring Updates. Do not turn off your computer" then goes to "Please do not power off or unplug your machine. Installing update 1 of 2."

It stays on that screen/message for over 14 hours.

Why is this happening and how do we fix it?

Thanks.

First thing. Check what updates it is trying to install. There also should be errors in the event viewer.

Are you using WSUS at work or Windows Update?

You might be able to find the installer and download the update manually. Then install it.

Man not to derail but it cracks me up when ANY OS troubleshooting requires asking an end-user to utilize the event viewer, haha.

Sorry, just my cynical sysadmin Vista hatred for the day. 😉
