I can usually find answers to my questions searching, but can't find anything on this issue. My first build seemed to go well. Asus p5b deluxe, e6400, 2 gig ram, 7300gs video card. On the second reboot installing the OS I got a video error

Oversize
Recommand Mode
1280x1024

Then it shuts down. Now the install is stuck and I don't have a clue what to do next. Should I reformat and try again?

Thanks!

You mean the resolution is going outside of the range of your monitor? Just boot into safemode and change it manually.

When I try to boot in safe mode I get a msg that the install can't complete in safe mode and to reboot. I seem to be in a loop. My monitor is a couple years old but does support 1280x1024. I can't even boot in safe mode and get to a dos prompt.

Could I have a bad video card? - everything seemed fine until the reboot during the setup process.

Do you have a monitor that can go higher, just to get you through the installation? My old 17" CRT can go as high as 1600 x 1200, for example.

Does the install program appear to still be working in the background after you see that message or does all hard drive activity stop? Might be bad drivers.

Thanks, mechBgon! I had an old fuzzy crt in the closet and that seems to be working. Looks like my monitor is going out and I'll be getting that new widescreen sooner than I thought. I truly appreciate the help - I was stumped.

And by the way Shawn - I LOVE my '03 Miata SE...

Thanks! I usually just lurk and learn. This is the first time I couldn't find an answer.... I finally got brave and decided to try my hand and building my own box and it has turned out to be a great experience. (except for the monitor and I had gone to the MFG site and double checked the specs!) But I was wanting a new monitor anyway.... I do appreciate all of the valuable information and help that you regulars post for us beginners.
