Vista goes to sleep (Hybrid) after 30 minutes. But every time I arrive at my desktop after a few hours, it looks like it was rebooted and just went to sleep mode at the password screen. Then I enter the password and all the taskbar icons have to load up as if the computer was restarted.

Any of this familiar to you?

make sure in your power options, that when you close the lid it goes to sleep not restart.

Or

if that is not it, you got some driver problems.

I remember, when I initially installed Vista, the sleep mode worked fine.

Something weird did happen to me that has to do with drivers. I don't remember whether I booted or woke it up from sleep mode, but all of a sudden my sound didn't work and the device manager says my Audigy 2 ZS drivers were uninstalled. But it was still installed under Programs and Features. So, looking to reinstall it, I uninstalled OpenAL. When I rebooted, the sound worked fine and device manager said they were installed so I ignored it. Open AL though is no longer displayed in Programs and Features.

I also now have a problem after the last couple of updates. If I place my machine in sleep mode the next time I try to shut it down it will hang. It didn't do this in the beginning but does after the last updates.

Vista "Sleep" features are the devil!

Microsoft knows they got problems there and are working on it apparently.

When my Vista computer goes to sleep I have had nvidia 7900GT screen scramble problems on wake and network connection not present on wake, and integrated sound (Sigmatel chipset)channels not present on wake, and and and...
