This is the one thing that I'm disappointed with on the x1900XT/X launch- no real drivers for it! People had trouble and couldn't even get the CD drivers to install. Had to end up using the 5.13 drivers because the 6.1's don't support the new cards. And they won't post the 6.2 Beta's to hold people over? Tipped me towards waiting for the G71 as I have to wait for drivers for the x1900 series anyway.

Highly entertaining for the onlookers, sucks if you own an r580 based card though.

ATi really should get off their butts and do something about the situation, or is this is portent of the company's intentions towards XP and its users when Vista is released (it would certainly be consistent with ATi's driver past).

ATI needs to get drivers for that card stat few games in which it is an obvious diver bug as at drop in FPS and mid res goes up gain higher FPS at higher res. I will say for card who drivers are based on r520 it performs pretty well am guessing 5% increase across board when they up the driver effecity on the pixel pipelines. .

I'm still using a beta of XP64 and it expires in 2 weeks. I need to get Vista Beta.

Hey we pleaded ATI for a hard launch this time apparently they took that to mean without the SOFTware. My x1900xt seems to work fine but I would like some official driver support!

At the rate it's going R600 will be released without and driver support at all. Yea they got cards in peoples hands but they don't have hte other essential part in place at launch. All seems a bit rushed if you ask me.

It's only logical that performance will improve with time that is the pattern for both companies, I doubt that ATI or NV would purposefully not release drivers or release neutered drivers so they can make up the difference at a later date. Both companies would want the best driver they can come up with by release day so their card doesn't fall flat on it's face when the reviewers get a hold of it.

That doesn't make it any easier to swallow, that's like giving NVIDIA a pass on paperlaunching their next product because ATI did.

Which ones?
And does that make it ok for ATI to do it?

What do you mean which ones? If I remember correctly, the 66.93's relesaed about a month or so before the 6800 series. It wasnt until several months later (around 7 I think) that NV released official drivers.

But no I dont think its ok for ATi to do it now. A friend who has a X900XTX doesnt have any issues though with the latest drivers.

Also, the beta driver for Vista, is anything but "official". Calling any beta driver for a beta OS official is just ignorant.

The official driver release was on July 20th 2004 that included support for NV40 based products.

Which if I remember right is about when volume finally started showing up in the channel.

I believe you are incorrect. However, I do not have time to find links right now, nor do I really care to. There were many betas out between the 66.93's and offical drivers, but not official from what I remember. I remember it so well, because even at NV news, a few staunch NV supporters were upset, including a mod. And it was about the same time I got banned from there.

I don't believe that was the question. I don't see how diverting these folks attention away from their concerns helps in this situation. Note the thread title.

The release of the drivers per Nvidias website says July 20th 2004. In those notes it is the first to have officials support for the GF6 series of cards.

He does have a point. Although Nvidia always release Betas that work and performe well.
ATI on the other hand release regular official drivers that run well. its just they havent and the cracked ones or hacked ones dont performe to par/what we expect. they could have released the 6.2 betas like some sites had to review with but they dident. which sucks either way. There have not been many occasions where ATI have released a beta. its always been for a specific game.

It might have been a point if it were in a thread called "Vista Beta gets Nvidia 7800 support before XP".
Smoke and mirrors.

Incorrect as pointed out by Genx87 and others. There were plenty of beta drivers to be found at the time, all of which worked great as has also been pointed out.

Moving back to the topic actually being discussed in the thread, ATi did actually release new drivers just days before r580 launched, but they don't support r580 - they turned out to be Emergency Edition drivers, released by ATi because of 3DMark06, just like I originally suggested.
