That's what I'm doing. I was thinking about upgrading my old P4 to something better now, but I'll just wait until I can buy an EVEN better machine later this year.

From the first article:

"In this exclusive Gamasutra opinion piece, WildTangent founder and CEO Alex St. John highlights obstructive security controls embedded in Vista that threaten to do just that."

Anything that makes life miserable for WildTangent is a good thing. I'd buy it for sure if I knew 100% that it was going to make them go out of business.

Is there any chance DX10 will be released for XP? How can they possibly expect developers to support the new API with such a small userbase?

Nope. DX10 is Vista-only.

I pretty much agree with everyone else.

I'm not buying Vista, i'm buying DirectX 10.

Why not wait for the complete DX10 drivers for the respective companies to arrive before jumping to any conclusions about performance?

WAIT FOR SP1 and STABLE DRIVERS.

While that's probably good advice, I just can't see that it's going to reach a lot of people. Look at how many people had the 8800 within a week or two of its release. TOTALLY new architecture and drivers, yet they were flying off shelves. I don't think it will be any different for the R600 either. New motherboards? Now you have driver AND bios issues to deal with.

As computer enthusiasts, I think we're sort of related to crows. Anything new and shiny catches our eye and we simply MUST have one. :)

we really don't know for sure

it's possible but a major operation ... MS may have done it --already ... just in case. :p

Devs can't - unless it is a "MS game" ... there are NO "Full DX10 games" for another two years ... the ones that are "DX10 compatible" will just have a "few dx10 'features' " ... the major releases like Crysis will support DX9c - primarily - and then "patch in" DX10 as the HW base and Vista use grows.

Doesn't matter for me, my tuition pays for Vista Enterprise, so in reality, I already own it, or at least, two installations of it.
