I am running Vista on my main machine right now. I want to be able to dual boot with XP Pro. I have read ideas on how to do this when the initial OS is XP but how do I do this when starting with Vista. I have alreay allocated a partition for XP, I just need to know how to do it.

Any other idea's?

There are no other ideas. Vista's boot environment is a totally different animal from XP, W2K, W2k3, 98, etc...

Vista is the last operating system that should be installed in any dual boot environment..

yeah, and if the other way is possible, i don't think that anybody has the nerve to explain it. beside, vista is on rc still, so you'll have to reinstall it anyway. better set up things right.

um, i partitioned my drive, and installed vista onto another partition no problem. running xp and vista with no issues....

I'm not sure what your asking, but in vista there is an area to set which to boot first and how long the delay before starting your set default os. I think its in system startup and recovery settings in system properties. Its there somewhere.
