So at my university i have to use a vpn to get on the wireless network. and since installing vista rc1 I can't seem to get it to get on It connects and starts validating my username and password, but it just doesn't seem to want to work. When i diagnose the problem it says "Windows did not find any problems with this computer's network connection." any idea's. If it helps i got Washington State University...

Do a Google search for "Vista and VPN". You will find people who have amde it work. I was thinking I had read where Vista didn't support VPN but I must have been wron.

Regards
Bill

VPN worked fine out of the box on my recent installation of Vista. Zero problems other than an anoying error message about not validating the other computers identity when connecting. GP

I'm still having no luck. it finds the vpn, but fails when verrifying my Username and password. I know the username and password is fine. Just kind of frustrated. I talked to the guy incharge of vpn here and he just told good luck and that they aren't doing any beta testing because vista is too unstable.

ROFL. Ah the FUD. Vista wireless > XP wireless. If you know the encryption methods and whatnot you are using under XP, you can open a beta support case with MS perhaps.

I tried to get the more detailed information from the guy at IT, but he feels that is information that should not be shared with me. I 'm allowed to know that we use pptp. and thats about it.

Ok so the error I keep getting is "error 734 the ppp link control protocol was terminated" I have been searching google for answers and i try everything i can find about it. Nothing seems to be working. The only think i found was on This Site which said

734: The PPP link control protocol was terminated

try simply adding the required keyword to the end of the ppp encrypt statement in the virtual template configuration (example shown below).

But i would have to convince them to do that server side.

Any other suggestions?

PPTP or L2TP VPN works fine in Vista; the only (and major) issue I've run into is with Cisco's VPN client. If I install it on any Vista build since Beta 2 I run into big hibernate/standby issues. Of course this issue really isnt a MSFT issue but rather an issue w/ Cisco's beta VPn client...
