Vista and DVD Region issues

I went to play some DVD's while I worked on some design work, and get "This Disc is not formatted to play in this region." Well this is new, checked the drive, yep it is region 1, checked the disk (Despite it working in all 4 of my stand alone DVD drives, previously working in the drive when system was XP and working in my 3 other computer DVD drives), yep it is region 1 too.

This was Roxio CinePlayer 9, tried Windows Media Player, no difference, tried my other DVD drive on the computer, no difference. Am i missing something? DVD drives are set right, it use to work in XP, and the disk works every where else. This is not a copied disk, not a burned rom, original disk that works every where else.

I am pretty sure Vista has some stupid issue, but I am not sure what it is this time. I am starting to really dislike this OS...

Any help would be appreciated. I will be drinking and cursing my computer until I a) fix it, b) someone provides me the magic cure to fix it, c) I pass out.

I want my FUTURAMA!

Thanks!

Now it gets even more wierd...Using Cyber Link 6 (which it warns in not vista compatible) allows me to play it!

Some one help me with this, I am running out of Whiskey.

Thanks!

So I guess Vista was having "One of those days", now it works in Roxio.

I hate software.

Can anyone help explain why this is happening. Vista Hates me I know, but I was nice and give it burnt offerings and animal sacrifices today, it should be working better! Do I need to sacrifice something bigger?

Thanks!

Most likely an issue with roxio, use a burner application from the download section thats Vista capable, it roxio is not vista capable you should uninstall it.

Roxio can do wacky stuff. Many DVD apps and stuff seem to assume that you want them to control your filters/decoders/layers/stacks, etc.

The number of codec related issues becuase of nero is impressive when you google "nero problem"

This is listed as Vista compatible, but I take nothing for granted. The Power DVD is not and it worked. I think it was a bad codec, I upgraded the Power DVD and all seems to be working, though Power DVD is still not Vista Compatible (Despite the note the patch was going to fix that. Think I may stick with an external DVD Player now that I have my 3rd display back.

Thanks!

Power DVD 7 is Vista compatible with this patch.

PDVD7

It also works fine in Vista w/o the patch. 🙂
