Vista always asking to format flash drive

Got a new 16GB flash drive, formatted it and everytime I connect the drive to my Vista HP PC, windows will ask me, "you need to format your drive before you use it, do you want to format it now?"

I formatted the drive a good 10 times and I still have the same problem...

Tried the drive in a different PC (vista as well) and there is no issue whatsoever, drives works just fine and it even shows the name I gave it when formatting it....

How can I completely remove this device from PC # 1, from registry, and everywhere else?

Or what else can I do to fix this issue?

Thanks!

You could see if it's in hklm\system\mounteddevices and pop it out of there.

Do other flash drives have the same problem?
Does the problem happen on all USB ports? (try one in front vs back...might be on different controllers)

Vista some times has a problem with FAT32 formatted drives - and that is the way most flash drives should be formatted. My Vista always wants to "screen" all my flash drives - I just tell Vista to bug off.

That means the dirty bit wasnt cleared (device was quick removed but caching was on). This issue certain sounds different.

Maybe I missed it, but is this a USB thumbdrive - flash card & reader - SATA flash drive, or what?!?!?

It's a usb flash drive, happens when pluggled to any port.

I have formatted the drive as FAT, FAT32 and NTFS, but still with the same problem!

Just yesterday I was at my parents place and was showing my dad the new tools in Vista to get pictures from a digital camera. My dad was previously taking the memory card out and putting it into a card reader, every time Vista would tell him it had to be reformatted. So I showed him the USB cable for the camera and Vista had no problems pulling pictures from the card through the camera. I'm curious to see why this happens, as it seems very similar to the OP's problem.
