Vista Aero & Integrated Graphics

i'm just wondering if it'll be possible for the GMA950 (for laptops) to support Aero. that's the only reason i'm deciding on going with dedicated graphics at this time. it really limits my options at my budget ($1000).

and what does Aero do? from my understanding so far, it only takes some graphics stress of the CPU and puts it on the GPU. how right/wrong am i?

You won't see Aero in full effect without DX9 support, which I don't think integrated graphics has. You will get a "dumb downed" version

Aero is just windows new "Theme". It is a interface through which you interact with the OS. There are some new features that basically turn the desktop into a 3d environment.

is there anywhere i can see the effects of aero in a video or something? i want to make sure it's worth the cost

Actually the gForce 6100 onboard graphics are DX9. I just built a new system for someone and it was advertised as being vista ready with HD audio DX9 graphics and such. (Gigabyte AM2 mATX mobo). As far as integrated graphics for laptops I don't know.

i'm buying a laptop, otherwise i wouldn't be worried. i could easily get a dedicated card for $50 but for laptops, it costs more (i have to add certain upgrades to allow for dedicated graphics).

thanks for the heads up though
