vista 64x vs 32x

Right now i have the 32x windows vista and right away i notice it wont recognize all 4gb of ram i have. So thats a bummer since i spent money on 4gb

are there any other significant reasons to fork money over to newegg or someplace for an oem vista 64x?

Assuming you have a genuine copy of Vista with a valid product key, all you need to do is get the 64bit media. Your 32bit key is valid for the same version of Vista in 64bit.

You can get it for $10 straight from Microsoft. Just go here, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select your language from the drop down menu.

I recently upgraded from 32bit to 64bit and I think it's great.

i bought a student copy of vista business 32x thats the 'upgrade version' but works completely fine as a fresh install and doesnt even work at the upgrade... weird huh

but will that work?

If the order page accepts your product key, it will work.

Also, keep in mind that you will have to do a clean install going from 32bit ---> 64bit.

my new motherboard comes on friday but the new vista wont show up until mid next week.. does anyone know if replacing my mobos without formatting would be bad? can i hold off on formatting until the new cd comse so i dont have to do it twice?

If you're asking if you can replace the motherboard and boot up your existing Vista installation, I wouldn't do it. I haven't actually tried it, but I know there is information in the registry concerning the motherboard and other hardware. Plus you'll probably get prompted to activate again.

So, if you need access to the computer until the new Vista comes, just stick with the current board. Then replace the board and install 64-bit Vista fresh.

You'll just have to reactivate Vista once you replace the mobo. You may have to call, but really it only takes 5 minutes at the most if you have to call, which is certainly shorter than formatting.

yeah i just mean that i didnt wanna have to format on friday and then again next week when the upgrade comes. Id rather just format once next week
