Vista 64bit OS slower than XP OS?

When going from website to website, my newly loaded Vista OS is so much slower going from site to site than it was when I had XP.

I read somewhere that there where "bells and whistles" one could turn off on Vista without damaging anything.

Can someone tell me what it is I can do, if any, to eliminate this problem.

Don't turn anything off... get your stuff installed, let Vista index the drive and learn your usage habits. After a week it should feel as fast or faster than XP ever did.
