So I have been ripping my entire library over the network to my Media PC. I have noticed my Quadcore system with the noisy Sony DVDrw drive rips faster then my Core2 6300 w/ NEC IDE or Lite On.

Both systems run Vista 64 bit OS. Now originally both systems seemed rather quick to rip a DVD. Next the Core2 system started ripping very slow(DVDshrink). So poked around for DMA settings but couldn't find much. I ran Nero Speed test software and the drive was running around 2x transfer speeds. Next I test my other Vista system and it was running faster. So I ordered new Lite On Sata drive to hope fix the slow issue of the older NEC IDE drive. Wasn't much faster if at all with the new drive.

Now back to the faster system w/ Quadcore I decided to load up my Vista 64 bit again. Fresh install and latest drivers. I was blown away my ripping times were even faster then in my XP load. I was completing a disc in 10mins with all the bells and whistles. So for the last few hours today I have been ripping at fast speeds. Always my drive in this QUadcore system is rather noisy when it spins up. Now on this current DVD that I am ripping the speeds slowed down from 10mins to 30mins and I no longer hear the loud spin up.

So both Vista machines with different drives started off fast and now have slowed down considerably with ripping my DVD's. I am thinking the Ultra DMA is now disabled or something but it feels like the same issues that alot of people usually post about. Any help on Vista 64 and this slow down issue.
