vista 64 services

iscsi ? shows up in device manager...?/

Thank you.

New rig components.

Abit P35 (non-pro)
8gb adata memory
e8400
xfx8800gt

Update: It was able to boot in safe mode..(?) no running in normal. WTF? Me thinks the MB is weird.

I installed vista 64 ultimate and it was plagued with reboots and when it did, it could not find the OS, I had to do a repair. After all the testing, and viewing of logs, and reading other fourums, I was convinced it was the Raptor. Even doing a repair, it would not see it, but somehow it fixed it. I switched to a Spinpoint Samsung. It has been pretty flawless for about 3 weeks now. I get up this am, and boom same thing. I have game on it, ripped movies, etc...all was fine. Now I cannot even do a repair.

As most of you know..when not doing testing, an unstable box gets old. I am thinking it is the abit. I cannot tell you how many ABITS I have RMA'd the past year. Too many.

Mind you, this is with SP1. My kids box with a nforce chipset, and epox has been fine. No real problems that I have seen.

What do you think? I have spent so much time and money on this crap...too much actually. I have built about 700 pcs in my time, and I guess it is just getting old. Anyone else have issues with the rebooting and not being able to find the OS? How does the damn boot sector get corrupt like that each time and cannot find it? Then (at least on the Raptor) I could perform a startup repair and it would work until it crashed again. Nothing in the logs, all drivers have been updated from intels website, and nvidia, all that jazz. Nothing conclusive in the new fancy logs of the Vista.

Is there a stable p35 motherboard that is better? If it was so unstable, why the three weeks in between? Something is wrong at the root level somewheres, but I cannot pinpoint it down.

Summary:

Vista 64 on P35 chipset crashing, rebooting and not being able to find the damn OS installation. Repeatedly.

Thanks.

Stick the raptor in the other box. If you are getting reboots are they out of the blue? Could be your MB or PSU.

My bias tells me it is your Abit MB. I havent used Abit in nearly a decade due to their terrible quality. Gigabyte or ASUS for me. Had great luck with those manufacturers.

Are there any programs/drivers you have installed around about the time this started happening? Being able to boot into safe mode tells me two things. One is the hardware is fine (POST) and the core of the operating system is fine as well (safe mode, loads only essential components IIRC). Which leads me to think its a driver corruption or a program is causing this issue.

I wouldn't worry about those services unless they are slowing you down considerably and noticeably (task manager CPU cycles/RAM usage). I have the same service 'iscsi' listed as well but doesn't seem to be a problem. As long as you have your boot problems worked out and its not unbearably slow I wouldn't worry about it.

I have the Abit P35 & Vista 64 Ultimate on a 75GB Raptor, and it's been rock solid. I only have 4GB of ram, and I have a Q6600, but I also have the evga 8800gt. I'm with RebateMonger, and think you need to check your ram. If you are overclocking, don't, until you are stable.

I had similar problems with A-Data memory, until I noticed that the A-Data memory I purchased said it's voltage range was 2.0-2.1v. since my abit IP35-PRO defaulted to 1.8DDR voltage, it was causing 'weird' issues. I upped the voltage to 2.0 and everything was smooth after..
