vista 64 fresh install problem, getting hitching in Internet explorer and other programs

Just finished a fresh install of windows vista ultimate 64. All updated drivers.

When in internet explorer I can hear the hard drive spool up and I am seeing hitching in the keyboard and the mouse, they hang for an instant and then resume normal operation.

Did not have this problem pripr to the fresh install.

Can't find anything on the internet. What could be the problem and solution?

Crap, now I am seeing hitching when playing solitaire. WTF

TIA

Rig specs.

Asus P5E VM HDMI
2x2 GB GSkill PC8000
Q6600 @ 3200
8800GTX
2x1TB Hitachis
Samsung DVDRW
620W Corsair HX
Abit Wireless G

Also having some stuttering in games.

I think I am onto something. When I back the overclock down to stock the problem gets a little better so either its a thermal problem or I need to up voltage a little.

f this no improvement at all.

if its a fresh install you might have a lot of services running like indexing service etc. which constantly access the HD? Did you do windows update and also install SP1? All newest drivers?

Also..overclocking is not a guessing-game. There are programs for checking whether its stable or not, eg. OCCT or wprime. Also, memtest is good, especially the onewhich runs in windows.

Btw. assuming that my OCZ Plats are also Powerchips i have simial config like yours, my Q6600 does NOT make 3600, 3555 is utter limit, a few mhz more and i get BSODs. I am running 8x442 with mem at 530.

flexy,

I think you hit the nail on the head. I think it was the indexing service working on the hard drive. Because after a couple hours everything settled down and its worked great ever since.

The GSkill RAM I am using is the cheap power chips stuff, cheap stuff that does DDR1000 at 2.1V. I am not overclocking the RAM, try downclocking your RAM to see if that helps.
