I was running 32 bit Vista Business for the past month, and have been noticing alot of slowdowns in my start menu. I'm on a loaded laptop with 2.0 Core 2 Duo, 1.5 gb ram, 7200 rpm HD, and dedicated Mobility X1700. Needless to say, it was unacceptable, and I was at a loss as to why the start menu lagged and was slower than XP...
So I gave Vista 64 a try again... and holy christ! Everything flies in the face of Vista 32 bit... I mean IE loads pages INSTANTLY, I have never seen such incredible performance gains in my life! My roommate came over, who is running 32 bit Home Premium and was absolutely blown away.
I have an Asus laptop, and luckily I have 64 bit Vista drivers for everything. For anyone considering whether to install 32 bit or 64 bit... don't even think about it, and don't be put off by everyone saying 64 bit is blah blah blah... Infact, I'm shocked to hear people saying it is more sluggish. It does boot up slightly slower, but once into windows, it's incredibly fast.
This may may be a fluke on my machine's part (some sort of 32 bit vista incompability????), but I'm just here to share the resolution to one of my computer frustrations.
