software
- Adobe Photoshop CS4*
(photo editing / graphics application)

- 7-zip
(zip utility)

- SoundTaxi*
(awesome for taking iTunes purchased / ripped music and converting to mp3)

- BitDefender antivirus 2009*
(antivirus / spyware)

- Firefox 3.0.5+
(browser)

- SmartFTP 3.0.1024
(ftp client)

And why do you care of your zip or ftp client is 32 or 64 bit?

why 64-bit for zip / ftp clients?
your right, there is no real advantage to having 64-bit zip or ftp software over 32-bit; other then the blatantly obvious, 64-bit os - 64-bit software = no emultaion needed to run lower bit level software. i'm sure that there are other reasons beyond the simple but i'll leave that for smart men then me to expand upon if neccessary.

No emulation is enabled when using 32-bit software in a 64-bit Windows environment.

7zip x64 does unzip files faster, but nothing to write home about yet.

There's no emulation going on, x86-64 chips can execute 32-bit code natively.
