From what I've read, no matter what, Win7 requires a clean install - even the upgrade version will wipe your drive first (I'm assuming it will ask you to insert your old CD/DVD kind of like how win98 used to ask for the first disk from w95 to validate you as an upgrade user)

I thought Vista users of the same bit level were allowed upgrades.
