Here is a list of the main components of my new build:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
EVGA 122-CK-NF68-A1 LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard
4 Gigs of CORSAIR Dominator 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory
150 Western Digital Raptor X 10,000 RPM
500 Western Digital Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD5000KSRTL 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s
EVGA 768-P2-N831-AR GeForce 8800GTX 768MB 384-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Retail
OCZ GameXStream OCZ700GXSSLI ATX12V 700W Power Supply 100 - 240 V

Got the system built. Bios pops up, I can go into BIOS. Only thing I changed in BIOS was the date. In BIOS my 2 hard drives and my 2 cd/dvd roms show up fine. All in sata. 4 gigs of memory showing up. Everything is looking good.

Go to install Windows Ultimate Vista.

Enter registration key, hit I accept license terms

I get these two options: Upgrade or Custom

Upgrade (I can't choose this one)

Custom (advanced) Install a clean copy of windows, select where you want to install it, of make changes to disks and partions. this option doesn?t not keep your files, settings, and programs

SO I HIT CUSTOM, windows shows my 2 hard drives.

Disk 0 Unallocated Space 465.8
Disk 1 Unallocated Space 139.7

I want Vista on the Raptor 150 gig. So I click on it, windows looks for drivers and says it can?t find anything. I put in the disk that came with the hard drives but vista does not find the drivers??? Call Western Digital and they say that there are no drivers, it is just plug and play.

(can hit REFRESH, LOAD DRIVERS, DRIVE OPTIONS (ADVANCED)
THIS COMPUTERS HARDWARE MAY NOT SUPPORT BOOTING TO THIS DISK. ENSURE THAT THE DISK'S CONTROLLER IS ENABLED IN THE COMPUTER'S BIOS MENU

HIT THE DISK ONE AND GET..... WINDOWS IS UNALBE TO FIND A SYSTEM VOLUME THAT MEETS ITS CRITERIA FOR INSTALLATION

NEXT BUTTON

ANY SUGGESTIONS. I KNOW I AM CLOSE TO GETTING MY FIRST SYSTEM BUILD DONE!!!!

You need to create a partition on the raptor before you can install it. Why its asking for drivers, I have no idea.

How can I partition the Raptor without having an OS to go into and partition the Raptor. The Disk that came wiht the Raptor was for Win Me, Win 98 and XP. Hummm, I guess I could take out the Vista CD and see if the Western Digital CD is a boot disk. I did not think about that since Vista was not listed on the disk.

I always feel like an idiot when it doesn't work, but hey OP you're not the only one it happens to.

Fucking Raptor drives just don't install right away. I don't know what the deal is. I drop the f-bomb because that's how pissed off I get about it. I thought maybe when I bought Vista the problem would go away, but NOOOOOO, it just doesn't pick it up. I had a floppy disk that I managed to get the right drivers for and viola works fine. I lost that disk. Ever since I haven't reinstalled my Vista OS.

So you're not alone. I always see other people though running around with their raptors and apparently they didn't have a problem at all. This upsets me.

You can try selecting the XP driver for it. The only thing I can remember is it being a VIA SATA driver(whether it was just SATA or SATA RAID driver I can't remember). Look for it if it's in your WD CD Rom.

If you do find it, and it does work, mind sending me the drivers? :)

when you click on the your 150 disk, there should be a button for new, which will create a partition on the drive and then you should be able to continue the install.

as it is seeing the drive you shouldn't need to load any drivers

You should be able to go into it during setup. If you cant get that far because the drives arent even recognized by setup, you need drivers for your *motherboard's controller*, not the disc that came with you drive. That has nothing to do with it at all.

Raptors are like any other drive - its plug and play. Look on your MB manufacturers site for the drivers for the SATA controller.

So I can get to this on Vista loading. I formated my raptor 150 gig hard drive as that is the one I want to load the Vista on.

I get an error message on the bottome that says:

THIS COMPUTER'S HARDWARE MAY NOT SUPPORT BOOTING TO THIS DISK. ENSURE THAT THE DISK'S CONTROLLER IS ENABLED IN THE COMPUTER'S BIOS MENU.

I can hit the next button and get this error message:

WINDOWS IS UNABLE TO FINE A SYSTEM VOLUME THAT MEETS ITS CRITERIA FOR INSTALLATION.

Any ideas. I got a floppy with my hard drive that has serial ATA (150/300) raind drivers for evga nforce 680i motherboard series. BUT, I don't have a floopy. Looked on EVGA and I can down load the drivers but it is in zip. Am I supposed to download the drivers onto my lap top, unzip the files. Then burn the files on to a cd then load the cd into the computer and boot from the CD???

Any ideas how to get Vista on my system?

Sounds like a problem with the Raptor... maybe you can try installing it on the other drive and then just move it over?

Other that this I dont know what to tell you. I've done 10-12 Vista installs on my Raptor with no issues.
