I just wanted to see if anyone out there was having the same problem that I am. I was testing out Vista RTM on a computer but can't get it to run Aero at 1280x1024 (native). The computer has a Radeon 9550 128mb AGP card and a Samsung 710N 17" LCD. It shows the max resolution as 1024x768. The card supports SM 2.0 and DirectX9.
Do you think it is the card that is limiting the resolution or that maybe it is just a problem with the latest ATI drivers? I couldn't find a lot of documentation around on this subject. I know I've read in the past about having 256mb and 512mb of graphics memory for much higher resolutions, but I thought 128mb would work alright for 1280x1024.
I guess another point I should make is that I saw originally that ATI listed the 9550 as being supported, but now when you search for drivers it shows the 9600 as the lowest model supported. I hope they didn't decide to drop the 9550 off the support list. I bought this card a year and a half ago hoping that it would work fine.
I had no problem running my friend's computer at 1280x1024, but with a newer video card and NVIDIA instead of ATI. eVGA 7900GT and a Sony 17" LCD.
Let me know what you think.
Thanks.
