Visor Platinum or Aero 1550??

I know they're different OS, but I'm really having a hard time leaning toward one or the other. I have read a lot of reviews, and this is basically what I get for the pros & cons of each:

Visor Platinum:
Pros: USB Support, unlimited expansion, screen included on warranty
Cons: Springboard cost a lot, bulkier than the Aero

Aero 1550:
Pros: Pocket Word/Excel (additional cost w/ Visor), looks a lot better (slimmer), rechargeable batteries, play MP3 & record voice (comes standard w/ Pocket PC)
Cons: No USB support, screen is not included on warranty, not a lot of accessories

My question would be, does having USB connectivity justify that Platinum better than the Aero? How much slower is Serial connection? What other disadv. comes with Serial connection?

Can anyone please help me lean on one product over the other?

Any unbias review that cover both PDA's?

TIA,

Funny - this is the same question that I puzzled over for several days as well, although with the $50 rebate on the Palm IIIxe and the $50 Amazon GC over at Amazon for the Palm IIIc, I threw those two into the pool as well. I finally gave up and got the Platinum mostly because I knew everyone I know uses Palm OS.

The big selling point for the Aero for me was the ability to use Flash cards and use MP3's. The compatibility with PC software was a plus as well. Plus the screen is much bigger than the Palm OS devices.

The big point for me with the Palm is the fact that everyone that I know at work has one. Linux compatibility is pretty good. And there's a ton more software for the Palm OS devices.

As far as the connection, it's only a big deal if you are moving a lot of data around. Serial is 112kbits/s IIRC. USB is about 2.3Mb/s (again, IIRC). Serial is fast enough if you are moving email addresses and calendar updates, but if you are planning on moving MP3's, it could be slow enough to be irritating.

I still am not sure that I made the right decision. I know I'll be happy with the Platinum, but I still wonder if I shouldn't have gotten the Palm IIIc or the Aero 1550. It would have helped if I knew anyone who has used the Aero.

Thanks pm for your input! How do you like the Platinum so far? Does it fit comfortably in your pocket?
I guess there is major speed difference between Serial & USB. It really is too bad that Aero doesn't support USB, it would've made my decision a lot easier :(

Anybody using the Aero 1550 out there??

palm OS is just that much easier to use. you have to reboot the winCEs to clear up memory. Thats horrible. The winCEs are only good if you want to buy CF modems and extra cards. With modem you can go online fairly cheaply, or with CF network card. And with a 64mb CF card (around $100 with coupons now), some you can turn into an mp3 player. The visor's mp3 attachment is like $250, depends. If you want it for just taking little notes, and addresses, get the palm.
