Visiting Washington D.C. in April...

I'm visiting D.C. for a few days next month and I was looking for hotels on their main webiste. Most of the places seem to start at around $300 a night! WTF? :| I'll be working during the day and sight-seeing in the afternoon so I just need four walls and a roof to sleep under at night.

Does anyone know of some reasonable hotels in D.C.? A Motel 6? A Bed-n-Breakfast? Anything at all under $100 a night? Thanks a bunch. :)

if you are on a tight budget, you can look outside the district somewhere along the metro. still plenty convenient to downtown but could be substantially cheaper

I stayed at a cheap Super8 (or maybe Econo Lodge?) there last year for less than $90 a night. It was about 10 minutes away driving from all the main attractions and was in a very ghetto part of DC but we were out more of the time so we didn't care.

I don't remember exactly where it was located, but look in the surrounding areas and you should be able to find something very cheap

Stay in Arlington, preferably in Ballston-Rosslyn on the metro. It can be done on the cheap.

PM me if you need specifics. I'm not being jerk, I'll just have to look them up if you can't find anything. I live in the area and am happy to help.

Before that, go to betterbidding.com & get some info on how to rebid amongst the separate "zones". If you don't need a 4 star, lesser rooms can be had for under $75.

I went to Priceline, but it seems like they book and charge your CC (which they say is non-refundable) before you even know what hotel you'll be staying at, which I wasn't very comfortable with.

I found this place, the Howard Johnson Cheverly which looks to be about 7 miles from the Washington Monument area. User reviews give it 4.0/5.0, it has free parking and breakfasts, and goes for $66.50/night when you book for at least 3 nights. I'm not sure how nice the neighborhood is, but I'll basically just be sleeping and watching T.V. there anyways.

Anyone have experience with the Howard Johnson Cheverly? Thanks again. :)

You get to bid on different star levels & in different neighborhoods. That's the trade-off. They give you a list of all the hotels in the area to go through so you won't be surprised when one shows up. Nothing is going to be terrible at 4 stars, most likely not at even 3.

Look into conventions, sometimes they print the convention rate code right on the registration form :)

I like this review:

This hotel would be what you might expect for the price. The hotel is clean, the breakfeast bar was as good as it gets, and the hotel staff we?re polite. And the police presents was much welcomed for the area around the hotel.

So apparantly there are active police patrols in the area, bonus!

Don't forget your Kevlar vest, Cheverly is a hurting place. I think I would have found a hotel in VA or Montgomery county.

No, you misread. The police don't patrol the area, they give you presents.

Priceline Negotiator...

I had a friend suggest it to me... He gets great deals all the time... Said the best thing to do is to go for the 3 star hotels, cut the price in half and drop a few dollars...

I got a 3 star hotel in the middle of Philadelphia for $70 ... Not an amazing deal but I was blown away with how nice the hotel was and how easy everything turned out to be...

EDIT: It had the average listing as $170...

Yeah there was a little faith involved but I just looked at all the 3 and 4 stars in the area I wanted and was fairly confident that any would be fine...
