..But seriously, I'd like to go somewhere where they serve killer fresh sushi

Most would be even more surprised to learn that if the sushi has not been frozen, it is illegal to serve it in the United States.

Food and Drug Administration regulations stipulate that fish to be eaten raw -- whether as sushi, sashimi, seviche, or tartare -- must be frozen first, to kill parasites. ''I would desperately hope that all the sushi we eat is frozen,'' said George Hoskin, a director of the agency's Office of Seafood. Tuna, a deep-sea fish with exceptionally clean flesh, is the only exception to the rule.

I read everyone's replies and am going to throw together an itinerary. My dad grew up in the Bremerton area, but our likes are different so he might not think to do some of the things I'd like to do. The underground tour sounds fun.

Didn't know that about the sushi either. Learn something new every day.

I you do decide to check out Paradise on Mt. Rainier, I can probably go up there with you guys after Sunday. I can put the studded snow tires on the Honda Pilot.

Yeah? That would be awesome. We are going to be renting a small car so I know we would get stuck. We are going to be landing around 11:30ish on Thursday and don't leave until Tuesday late morning.

I'm taking my laptop with me, so I'll check in from Bremerton and let you know the plans when I get them.

going on the ferry is fun too.

- Well, for starters, it's PIKE Place Market, not Pike's Place. Definitely go there, but it's more of a shopping, browsing and people watching experience, so if you're not into that, you'll find yourself bored in about 5 minutes.
- There's a great sushi place on Lake Union, about 5 min. north of downtown called I Love Sushi. I know, stupid name, but good sushi.
- If you do want to go to Ivar's for seafood, take a drive about 30-40 minutes north to a little town called Mukilteo. There is a ferry crossing there and the restaurant has a great view of the dock, so you can watch the ferry boats come and go, pretty interesting.
- An awesome place for lunch is Salumi, in Pioneer Square. Only open from 11-4. Incredible authentic italian smoked meats. The owner's name is Armandino Batali. He's got a son named Mario, maybe you've heard of him.
- After growing up there, I always told myself I would never take a Duck Tour, because it looked ridiculous. But, I broke down a few years ago and did it. Turns out I learned alot about the history of the area and you ride in a bus that turns into a boat, what's not to like?
- Mt. Rainier is not out of the question, but would take a little planning. The only area open this time of year is Paradise, and the weather is HIGHLY variable so roads can get closed down at a moment's notice.

All I can think of for now.
