If you could pick one city to goto in Germany, what would it be? I'm going to be in Prague this summer and want to visit. Most likely rail. Any ideas? Also... tell what it is that you liked about the city...

Berlin or Munich
I've been all over Germany, it's a pretty cool place.
If you go to Munich make sure to head over to Dachau. You can still feel the death there.

Bremerhaven, but that's only because I lived there as a kid. Seeing my old neighborhood probably doesn't have the same draw for you.

Have a great trip :)

Munich or Erding for some great brewery tours! For Erding, Take the S2 train from Munich central station ("Hauptbahnhof") to Erding; from Erding train station, take the no. 540 "Citybus" to the brewery ("Brauerei") in Franz-Brombach-Strasse. The bus leaves hourly, Monday thru Fridays.

I'm heading to Germany in April for the first time. I can't wait to see Berlin personally.

If you are in Prague, München (Munich) is an obvious choice. Vry nce city, and quite close to Prague. I can recommand a trip to Slovenia as well. Very nice country.

Munich. Never been there, but it sounds like a cool city and you can visit nearby Dachau.

Use an umlaut you louse.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Umlaut_(diacritic)

Printing conventions in German

When typing German, if umlaut letters are not available, the proper way is to replace them with the underlying vowel and a following <e>. So, for example, "Schröder" becomes "Schroeder". As the pronunciation differs greatly between the normal letter and the umlaut, simply omitting the dots is considered incorrect. The result might often be a different word, as in schon 'already', schön 'beautiful' or Mutter 'mother', Mütter 'mothers'.

Do what I did and go to Berlin whenever you can and then Munich during Octoberfest. Berlin has more to see and just has a really cool vibe to it. Munich doesn't have as much, but if it's during Octoberfest then it'll keep you busy.

I didn't have a chance to go to that many cities in Germany, but of the ones I did visit, I would say Munich was my favorite. Hard to say what Berlin was really like without the World Cup.

Munich for sure. Much to see and do. Don't forget to go to the world famous Hofbrauhaus for a beer and to make fast friends Oktoberfest style.

Also, Munich is close to Prague so you have more time to visit side interests like the Neuschwanstein Castle and that famous medieval town where they make some of the worlds best violins (the town name escapes me but you can find it in tour books).

Berlin is good metro city for night partying NYC style, but it's an "ugly city with beautiful corners" (Berlin quote). Much better unique places to visit in Germany.

I'd do Munich/environs and a train ride from Munich up the Rhine/Wine Valley (extremely beautiful must do!!) to Cologne and its famous church.

Muenchen is the correct way of writing if there is no ü available. This is tue for all of them: ü, ä, ö = ue, ae, oe
