Next month, I'll be taking a trip to Chicago. We're planning on catching a baseball game and touring some museums. Is there anything else there I need to make sure I do?

I assume that it's like any other big city in that I can get around where I need to go by the metro / train system. Is this correct? There really isn't a reason I would need a car, is there?

Where you will be staying has a lot of bearing on your transportation choices.

You are flying in I take it?

best way is by bus/cab in the city. if you get a rental car you can do that too but expect to pay for parking everywhere (though cab isn't cheap either) which stadium are you going to?

Which museums are you planning on seeing? There is a aquarium museum whose name is slipping my mind right now but its right next to the bears stadium thats really awesome. You may want to visit the bears stadium also...history there. Go to navy pier its going to be nice this time of year now that there is no snow. don't forget to go to a portillos while you are there and get a jumbo chili cheese dog...omg so good. If you are into plays wicked plays there which is a really great play to watch. Don't forget to see the sears tower also. On the pier there is a lot you can do. There are boat rides that will give you the full history of Chicago and i believe they take you somewhat through the city, i never taken one but i wanted to.

How long are you going for?

In the city proper you can take the "L" (elevated train) or walk/cab wherever you want to go.
Most people would say check out the observation deck on the Sears Tower. Personally I prefer to go to the Hancock building and hit the 95th floor lounge (1 floor below the observation deck). I haven't been there in at least 5 years, but before they had a 1 drink minimum I think. It was actually cheaper to do that than it was to go to the observation deck.
I think on Saturday's they had some sandwich/drink deal where it was $12 or $15 a person. Not a bad deal for the good views.

We haven't gotten a hotel yet. We're going to try to stay somewhere near a museum or near Michigan Ave.

We're going for a long weekend. I'm not sure exactly which museums we're going to. My friend from Wisconsin who's meeting us there knew of a couple.

I'm going to get some tickets to the Friday afternoon Cubs game.

if you plan on going to a bar, then go to a cubs game. If you'd rather watch some baseball go to a sox game.

*shrugs* I've been to most big cities in the US, but never Chicago. My best friend moved to SE Wisconsin about a year ago, so we figured it's a chance to kill 2 birds.

Good, a lot of things are walkable then.
The L/Subway (Red Line) can get you to either ballpark very easily as well. The Addison stop of the Red Line lets you off half a block from Wrigley.

You flying into Midway or O'Hare? If you haven't made the flight arraignments I highly suggest Midway since you can take the CTA Orange Line into the loop easily. The Blue Line from O'Hare is undergoing major work and can shut down periodically (in addition to being really slow right now).

We're getting our tickets / hotel this week. We'll be flying into wherever Delta will take us with miles. :)

Are both airports close to the city or is one way out in the boondocks?

Part of the game is seeing the Cubs. Part of it is seeing Wrigley Field.

I prefer the Art Museum (if you like art, it is an amazing place), Field museum and the Museum of Science and Industry. The Shedd (aquarium) is nice as well, but can get pretty crowded. Those are the 4 museums I take people to when they come to visit.

There are a ton of bars around Wrigley. You really can't go wrong with any of them (Murphy's, Sluggers, Goose Island, etc.).

yeah there are a few there. Everyone who lived there when i did suggested the shed museum and they were right it was pretty while. If you want to go to a zoo they have the brookfield zoo which is more like a attraction park but thats a few miles out of the city.

The above post is right. If you want to see baseball go sox, if you want to see baseball then bar hop go cubs.

How long is a long weekend? I gave you a good few days worth of stuff to do...

The difference is more the ease of getting into the city.. the blue line sucks so I'd avoid Ohare.
