He's almost 87, and still living at home with his wife. His health has been deteriorating...his knees have been the latest thing to give out on him. By the time I left I was crying walking to my car... :(

I got inside and he looked nothing like I remembered as a kid growing up. He had just went to the bathroom, and it didnt go too well. He had a big urine stain running down his pants...just so sad to see someone you admire like that. My grandmother told me how he has fallen 3 times in the past month. He uses a walker now, and even with that he can hardly move.

My story sucks I know, just needed to tell it to get it off my chest.

:( :(

He won't be around too much longer. You should get his stories while you still can. It sucks seeing them worn out, but you should stop over more often. His wife would probably like the help.

My great gma is like 92 and isn't to this point yet, I'll be deeply saddened if she does though.

Welcome to your future.
This is why all old people deserve your kindness and empathy.
For you will surely join them.

Seconded on getting his stories out of him. Do it now. Record them somehow. You will regret not doing this the first time your child asks about him.

Enjoy your time with him for sure. I recently lost my grandfather and if I learned anything from his passing is to live life to its fullest and enjoy it with the people you love.

Yeah, it sucks. One for seeing them in that shape, and knowing its just a matter of time. Enjoy your days with him. My last grandfather passed two weeks ago, it was hard, especially being so far away these past 15+ years. I wish I would have been able to spend more time time than I did with him, maybe go fishing, or hunting. Also it sucks to know that your time here is starting to wither away. Something that you may not think to much about in your 20s, but for me, being mid 30s, my life could be half over. While its not something dwell upon, it is something to recognize, and to actually start thinking bout that is in itself somewhat disturbing.
