Visiontex Ti 200 fan going bad, what to do?

Rather then RMA I would like replace the fan with a higher quality one. After all the next card will have the same fan! So, what fits? Would I have to replace the heatsink too? If so what would fit?

Thanks!

The Thermaltake ORB fans fit using the stock mounting holes. I use a Crystal ORB. It was way too loud for my tastes (as was the stock VisionTek fan). I did a 7 volt mod and removed the cover and now its working well.

I was just over at the plycon site and saw the crystal orb. You say this fan is too loud? Heck, at 12.4 cfm I'd expect it to be quiet! I'm cluless on what the 7 volt mod you talking about it! 😱 😕

I'm a real stickler for noise. You may not mind it. The stock nVidia GF3 reference fan was also way too loud which is the reason I replaced it. The 7 volt mod is this: Your 4 pin power connectors from the PS have yellow (+12) 2 black ground wires and a red (+5). To run a device such as a fan @ +7, you make a connector that runs between the +12 and +5. Basically, switch the black wire to red. The difference in potential is +7. This will cause the fan to spin at a lower RPM which will quiet it down considerably. The stock RPM on the CRY-ORB is 5500. Taking off the cover also increases airflow and reduces noise.

you took the cover off?

It is part of the HS itself. it gets hot and fan blows the hot air off. The CrOrb is one heavy beast. I tried to takle teh cover off to no avail, for a while I had it too low and it was stopping fan motion...

It comes off. It just sits there kind of wedged in. Lift it up a little at a time going around the edge and it will pop right off.

Old Fart thanks...

But I am concerned the HS won't work properly, I beleive the cover is there for a reason
Let me know if I am wrong. I am not scared to take it off, just wann make sure it is proper...

Its there for cosmetic reasons. All other CPU and GPU ORB fans have open tops including the Blue ORB. It's not needed and only restricts air flow and makes the unit louder.
