VisionTek x800xt - all of a sudden it's running really hot!

I got an x800xt from VisionTek last fall. I have been running it on my P4 DFI LanPart mobo just fine for months. The other night, I went to upgrade my P/S from an Antec 430 to an Antec 480. It seemed to work fine. I moved it a couple of days later (I went home) and the it was running extremely hot. Since then, I swapped it out with another Antec 400 and the same thing happens.

My x800xt used to run at 40 idle/50c under load. Now it runs at 45 - 50 idle and 75 - 80c under load. Has anyone run into this problem? Does anyone know how to fix it?

Sidenote: I did forget to hook up the extra power cable once (the screen then notified me of that)...could that be the source of the problem?

It appears as though your PSU isn't able to supply your components enough power. Be sure to look at more than just the max wattage on your PSU. Usually they'll take the power your PSU can supply and round it up.

How much power does an x800xt 256mb card take? I had an Antec (TruePower?) 430 watt. I replaced it with an Antec TruePower II 480 (with blue LED). The amount of power that the new one puts out should more, shouldn't it? I got the 480 from someone who upgraded because they have an X2 CPU, 6800GT, X-Fi.

All I have in that computer is 2 optical drives, 80 & 160 PATA, an extra NIC, sound card running P4 2.6. That shouldn't take all of the juice...

Update. I just tried to run the video card in another computer. As soon as I turned it on, I hard a beep (or something like that) and then started to smell something...I took out the video card and smelled it...I might have burned my video card (I haven't tried it again yet - I haven't had to courage to do so yet...)

Well, I hooked the x800 back up and it gave me the error like there was no power cable hooked to it. I tried a couple of different power molexes and the same result. That puppy is getting RMA'ed!!!

I was please with them up to now...we'll just see how the RMA goes. They do have a lifetime warranty. One bad card doesn't mean a bad company...

The RMA process was good. I have a working card now. The only thing I didn't like was that I had to prepay return shipping (total of ~$20 for shipping). I actually won this card from a LAN so I didn't have a receipt and I was still able to RMA it. I am satisfied with their RMA process.

The reason it took so long is that I was too lazy and didn't do this RMA for while after my last post on this thread.
