VisionTek is < *! My Ti4600 died and they won't replace it!

Technicality != legality

They have no legal responsibility to honor anything in relation to Visiontek/Xtasy. The fact that they're offering you anything at all is simply a gesture on their part, but are not required by law to do so.

Thank you Captain Obvious.

I think that the people that bought the Visiontek name are doing a lot more than they are technically obligated to. After I bought my GF3 Ti200 and Visiontek went under, I pretty much wrote the card off. People were even liquidating the Visiontek cards and people were buying them with no expressed warranties. Did you buy your 4600 before or after the Ti4600 because I seem to recall that Visiontek went under close to when the GF4 cards came out.

I got my Ti4600 at CompUSA when they first came out. I'm guessing the first VisionTek was still afloat then.

It's obvious it's not so obvious, if you read through the thread. But thanks for making an ass out of yourself 😉

I know they have no legal obligation to replace my card, I guess I would call it more of a moral obligation. A company should not buy or use the name of another unless it is willing to assume the baggage that comes with the territory.

I'd call it a moral issue, too but think that fault lies with the original, bankrupt Visiontek. Instead of selling the entire company w/liabilities and assets, they just auctioned off their trademarks and closed their doors. They could've taken less $ and found someone willing to take over their warranties, but instead they just pocketed the extra $ and d!cked you over to get themselves out of debt.

Sounds like they're being nice to you more than anything else.
It's not the same company, they don't make the same products, and hence they have no obligations whatsoever to help you.

Yes, they are being nice. However, I think they should have to honor the lifetime warranties of the company they took over. I don't care if they don't make Nvidia cards anymore, they can replace with a 9600 or something comparable.

why would someone buy the liabilities of a company in bankruptcy?

If you look at it, $125 trade-in value for the Ti4600 is more in line with prices if you actually try to sell it second hand. The only problem is that their prices for the new cards are full price, manufacturers suggested retail prices (no rebates or discounts). But like you already mentioned, $75 for a 9600XT is a good deal (although they had the price at $199, CompUSA had it at $149 after rebate just last month). Just sell the card and buy a 9800pro or keep it. The 9600XT IS faster than the Ti4600, more so with AA/AF.

What exactly is the upgrade option? Do they upgrade you to a different card fro free, do you get a newer card at a reduced price, or do they just want you buy a new card from them? The email doesn't specify, but they make it sound like they are going to simply swap your card out for something different. Why else would they want you to include the defective card with the paperwork?

They include a form to fill out. Here's the options:

Amount off for your old card:
Ti4600 -$125
Ti4400 -$100
Ti4200SE - $80
Ti4200 -$50
Geforce3 Ti500 -$50
Other -$35

What their new ATI cards cost before the amount off:
9800XT: $499.99
9800Pro: $399.99
9600XT: $199.99
9200SE: $89.99

So if you get the 9200SE, they'll also give you a check for $35? 🙂

Suck it up and spend some money...

I don't mind spending money on a new card, but I do mind having something I paid $400 for being essentially worthless.

Welcome to the wonderful world of computers. They call it the bleeding edge for a reason.

if i were you i would call them directly and speak to a manager there and if you bug them and piss them off enough, they always cave to some extent, and maybe get an even replacement on a 9600 pro or something

I know I'm a couple weeks late on this thread but I too am trying to work with Visiontek on a dead Ti4600. You all have one thing wrong though in this thread. You only get $125 credit if you buy the 9800XT or the 9800 Pro. ($499 & $399). If you choose the 9600XT, you only get a max credit of $70. You only get a max credit of $30 for either of the 9200 cards. I have the form if you would like me to post it. It's a bunch of crap if you ask me. The prices with the upgrade discount are barely at retail price. The only one that is a good deal is the 9800XT. But, I still don't have $374 for a video card.

I noticed that after I made this thread. I gave the card to my dad thinking he could use it to get a 9600XT for $75. Not so. I'm kind of irritated and most likely will never buy another "Visiontek" product regardless of which "Visiontek" it is.
