How does this card compare to a GF2 GTS 32mb? Doh, I know its faster, but would this MX card be that much better than a GTS?

My brother's system needs updating, and this seems like a good, cheap choice.

"Plain Packed
NOTE: NO DRIVERS OR OTHER SOFTWARE OR CABLES INCLUDED "

looks like vistiontek really did go under. you have to download base drivers from nvidia and the file is huge, 10+mb why doesnt nvidia make individual drivers available instead of a giant lump

mx460= 170 fps
mx440= 150 fps
mx420= 130 fps??? :D

Anyone have more info on this card? I'm using a cheap 64mb inegrated card now so I know this would be a good upgrade for cheap $$.

Well, if you upgrade from a previous Nvidia card you don't have to worry about installing the drivers again. I had a GF and upgraded to GF3, no need to reinstall drivers.

Besides '20' anyone know the difference between the 440 and the 420. OK, and besides the fact that one is a code for hitting the bong and one isn't.

Tom's page doesn't show the 420 as a benchmark'ed card nor does Anandtech in this article.

[edit]Answered my own question:

Today the GeForce4 MX line consists of three cards: the MX 460, the MX 440 and the MX 420. While all three feature a 128-bit memory bus with a 64MB frame buffer, only the 460 and 440 use DDR SDRAM, the 420 features conventional SDR SDRAM

The GeForce4 MX 460 will be priced at $179 and it will have a 300MHz GPU clock and a 275MHz memory clock. The MX 440 will be clocked internally at 270MHz with a 200MHz memory clock and it will be priced at $149. Finally the entry-level GeForce4 MX 420 will be clocked at 250MHz core with 166MHz memory and it will retail for $99.

from this review.

mx420 runs at 250mhz with a 166mhz sdram.

mx440 runs at 275 with 200mhz ddr (400mhz effective)

ive had both, the mx440 is close to a gf3ti200 in most things, except dx8 games (i.e. UT, q3a, might even be faster)

the mx420 is around gf2 gts speed.

I have an extra monitor so would the MX420 PCI card make a good dual monitor setup? My AGP card is a xtasy 6964 geforce3 TI500.

Good point Gonzo.

Here is a good reveiw of the MX420 that compares it against an Asus GeForce2 GTS. They are near identical performance-wise. You're better-off going with a GF3 Ti200 or GF4 MX440 or 460 if you need a budget card upgrade from a GF2 GTS.

Here

that article shows the GF4MX420 with DDR ram, albeit 64-bit (compared with 128-bit for others). Does anybody know for sure the VRAM rating on this card @ the Geeks?

So how does a dual monitor setup work??

Won't you be seeing the same thing on both monitors if you have both agp and pci card plugged in??

I don't get it..

The GF4 MX420 128MB card has the same fps in Counter Strike as a GF2 GTS 32MB.

I know b/c i have a gf2 and my friend has a this card, not worth it. Go for the Radeon 8500LE 128MB($99 at newegg w/shipping) before this card.
