I have to agree, price is good but BestBuy!!! is not good.

Also you can get the GAINWARD/CARDEXPERT with 4ns Ram at NewEgg for $139 and no rebate is needed.

No rebate is good, and not buying anything from bestbuy is better

Go with what marlin says dont give best buy any business.

Feel free to give staples or OM business though.

Gainward makes the best geforce 3 ti200 simply because they guarantee higher clock/memory speeds, bringing your ti200 close to ti500 performance at the price of the competitors. You can't lose here...

No.... BB doesn't suck. There's just a lot of whiners and crybabies out there who think BB sucks just because they didn't get their way.

although sucks is not an appropriate word
best buy has engaged in practices that are unethical
so the bottom line becomes
best buy sucks

If anyone sucks, it's CompUSA..... damn restocking fees. They're only good for PM loopholes... like for that MS optical mouse the other week :)

I work at CUSA, and have friends that work at best buy. The difference is, the Best Buy people say they'd NEVER shop at BB if they were a consumer. The CUSA people say that they would shop at their store even if they didn't work there. There's a world of difference between the two in terms of customer service. Sure, CUSA has a 14-day return period, but computer parts have a much shorter life span before their prices change. The thing that gets to most people about CUSA is the rebates. Well, that's not something that CUSA controls. That's completely under the control of the manufacturer. If you feel like bitching because yours hasn't come through, we'll help you out. We'll show you the web sites to find your status, try to figure out what's going on, and see if the GM can work you a deal. I've seen lots of customers get refunded when their rebates don't go through.

The rebate situation will be the same no matter WHERE you go. If you find the rebate online, in BB, Staples, or CUSA, there's no difference between the rebates. They have nothing do to with the B&M companies who are selling the product (except in a few cases).

The thing that I really don't like about BB is that they never have anything in stock. If it's in the ad, they'll often only have 3 of the item. Many times, they won't even have ANYTHING in stock - they'll just put it in the ad to attract business. CUSA always has lots of their stuff in stock. We just can't always keep it from flying out the door. I've seen 60 pieces of RAM on sale sell in a matter of hours.

waggy, you better follow up on that $50 check. Wheresmyrebate.com usually lists this particular one. Yes, it did take longer than expected, but everyone got theirs already. I finally got mine last week.

Nah... CU is basically BB's pricematch bitch :) Most everyone ultimately ends up buying at BB because of 30-day return policy, NO restocking fees on most things, and the no interest plans with the nifty BB credit card.

the bigger the company, the greedier they have to be to stay competitive... you can make your own conclusions on what i mean.

You are quick to associate rebate problems and your company. Why is that ?

In my limited experience with rebating, I have done (about 20 in total) rebates with BB, OD, OM, Staples, and CompUSA. With the exception of CUSA, all have arrived in a reasonable timely fashion (some less and some more timely than others).

Of the two CUSA rebates involved, neither materialized at all. Store manager made good on the first with a GC. The other was finally resolved EIGHT MONTHS afterwards when vendor sent me a partial payment and gave me a CUSA contact to obtain the balance owed.

Maybe it is just coincidence that my ONLY problems should originate with CUSA. I dunno ??!?!

<< ....The rebate situation will be the same no matter WHERE you go >>

My antecdotal evidence does not bear this out. I have recently sent in one more CUSA rebate. Will see what happens.

Having bitched and complained like mad, now let me say I want onna these GF3 for my computer.

I stopped by my local BB store today, and guess what, no Geforce3 cards and no where to put them on their shelfs. They had the low end Geforce4 cards there and a spot tagged for the over-priced high end cards when they show up. As stated above, the BB buy is not really that great.

As for rebates, most of the manufactures hire clearing houses to handle their rebates for them. You will run across some company's that do their own rebates but not many. I have had a couple rebates get lost along the way but I have gotten them straightened out when the rebate was handled by the company. The only rebate I got screwed over on was memory I bought at BB. That rebate was handled by the "Wheresmyrebate.com" clearing house and was to Rochelle New York, I know it was New York. Well after a lot of phone calls (on hold a lot of the time) and a few e-mails to both the clearing house and manufacture, I finally got half my rebate. It only took a year and a half to get half my BB memory rebate! After that I will not buy anything that has a rebate that has to sent to New York and I believe the BB GeForce 3 Ti 200 is such a rebate. Good luck to you people waiting for that one.

Just wanted to add that it's not BB's fault for late and VERY late rebates, it's the problem with the rebate fulfillment house, in this case TCA Rebates in New Rochelle, NY :|

IMHO, a company stakes it's reputation on the people it does business with.

For BB or any retail outlet to say "well that is out of our hands because that is handled by another company" is BS. They do have control over this, they can tell the manufacturer that they wont buy and sell their products if the rebates are not handled better. If that store doesnt do this, then it is up to the customers to shop elsewhere or refuse to buy products with a rebate from those places.

IMHO, many people already ignore sales of products that include rebates because they feel rebats take to long or they are simply never are honored.

Like I said before you don't even need to mess with BestBuy or rebates.
Just go to NewEgg and get the Gainworld GF3 ti200 for $139. The Gainworld is a better card and you don't need a rebate or have to mess with WorstBuy.

Or if you can wait 6 weeks or so get the GF4 Ti4200. Shoild be around what the GF3 ti200 are now but just a little fatser.
But please don't shop at BestBuy. Click on the BestBuy link and you can read all about it.

And to the people that think this is just about the GF4 thing, you are wrong. We have had a bestbuy here for maybe 6 months and have been done wrong at least 3 times. One the after T-Day sale and didn't have a lot of the stuff they said they wre going to have, 2 the Crucial DDR memory sale when out of stock was told "we are not going to get anymore so we can't give a rain check for it, and of Course the final thing the whole GF4 card thing read here "Just one reason I Don't like BestBuy"
And this is just in a 6 month period. Sorry, but I can get all the same stuff I need for computer at Newegg without rebate or hassle.

And don'f forget the whole T2 DVD sale. Again another no rain check thing and can't give you the other DVD.

Just go to newegg and be happy, I am.

Exactly. Well stated !

I think I will keep a copy of that paragraph and use it in my complaint letters/discussions.
