VisionTek Dead...

From Hard OCP:

More VisionTek Woes:
In July we told you about VisionTek giving their employees pink slips on the 4th of July weekend, it seems that VisionTek is in even more trouble right now. Friday employees were given their final checks with severance packages not being honored and rumors that Mail-In-Rebates will not be honored as well. As you can imagine this is even more disappointing to hear, if it all proves to be true. As always, we?ll keep you up to date. Thanks to Lobo the Toilet Duck for the tip.

I bolded what I wanted to point out...

Uh oh...

😉 I hope someone steps in or something, Visiontek are/were excellent. Still, it means a bigger share for the other nVidia manus!

I just RMAed my F*CKING video card last week and I better F*cking get one back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, they aren't honoring there Mail-In rebates they are offering... but hopefully they'll honor there warrenty if you already sent one in, with an RMA number.

I'd change the title to: "VisionTek Dead????". The use of trailing periods make it appear to be the final say. When VisionTek.com issues a press release, I will accept the possibility.

visiontek could not compete economically with any of the other companies.

they spend lots on customer service, and built their products in america. the only company with a less financially wise plan is ATI (it costs even more to make cards in canada than it does in the US).

anyways, they were a good company to buy from, but they continued to build cards in america for too long, and by the time they tried to shift production to china it was too late.

and as a warning to all of you there who have minor RMAs. if your heatsink is dead, or something liek that, do not RMA your card. you will not get it back, as by the time they get it, their warehouse will have shut down, and your card will be sold of as inventory.

Don't RMA your cards because it will be liquidated. Maybe, if you go to one of their liquidation auctions, you'll find your card back and can bid on it, along with a pallet of RMA cards. 😀

This really sucks... What is really bad is that they were running rebate promos until the end.

What are the chances of them honoring their current rebates?

for some reason i find it odd that no one else has put out this news.

visiontek seems to not have anything about it on their site. there is the chance that hardocp is wrong. after all these are the guys who burned out tbirds because they had 2 sets of stabilizer feet on the heatsink.....

It might not be as bad as HardOCP is making it out to be, but there's gotta be something to the whole story. If HardOCP was flat out wrong, VisionTek would be all over the place making denials.

I wonder also why the only one to report it is HardOCP. I did a search today on the web and found nothing. I wish I could know for sure since I just ordered the 4600 deal at Amazon and have to decide if I want to return it when it arrives. I wish there was another verification one way of the other or a place to check.😕

the guys are hardOCP dont get my vote for reliability either. i asked a couple questions about inconsistencies in a review a while back (not accusing mind you, just asking). when i checked back to find answers i found i had been banned from the forums and my post deleted...... they also deleted all of their credibility when they did that, as far as i'm concerned.

Latest update on HardOCP story:

VisionTek has responded this afternoon (Monday, August 19, 2002) with the following statment.

Here is our official statement in reaction to HardOCP.com's recent post:

"An Assignee / Trustee has been appointed, and will attempt to maximize the value of the company's assets. His belief is that the assets have a higher value as a "turn-key" operation than in a liquidation. The Trustee is continuing to operate the company to determine if a sale is a viable alternative to a liquidation, and he is currently talking to interested parties. The company is continuing to take orders, ship products, and honor rebates."
