Thanks for the hot deal, I was looking to purchase the Visiontek thru Newegg last week after I saw the post for the $50 dollar rebate. I then hemmed over this or the Radeon, but my cheapness prevailed. I did have to register under Gateway Accessory instead of NECX to get the free shipping. Thanks to those who posted the $50 dollar rebate also.

I got mine today!! So far I have had it up to 215/500 with artifact tester 5 reporting no errors and no visible problems in 3d mark 2001. I'm going to test it a little more beforew I decide where to set it. Shipping info also went up this morning, it had been showing shipped since friday but no info until 9am this am.

I ordered last thursday btw. Huge box for a video card.

I think I will wait untill after I build my new Northwood system to try this one out. The V5 is running fine in my Piii 1000 for now, but it is hard to see a new card in the box just asking for some abuse.

1. Where do I get info on tweaking the registry to do some overclocking?

2. Where do I get the benchmark testing programs?

This is all that stands between me and an ersatz ti500! :disgust:

How much of a difference is there between this VisionTek card and my Geoforce2 GTS? I'm on a Ghz box with 512Mb. Am I going to see a significant enough increase in my Quake3 framerates to justify the purchase?

Here's a few benchmarks.
System specs:
ECS K7S5A
AMD 1GHZ @266
512 MB Crucial PC2100 DDR
100 GB ATA100 WD 7200
Win XP

With Geforce2 GTS:
3D2000 = 6987
3D2001 = 3541

With Geforce3 T200:
3D2000 = 7417
3D2001 = 5502

With Geforce 3 T200 o/c'ed:
Core Clock = 215mhz, Mem Clock = 495mhz. (locked up @ 220/500)
3D2000 = 7673
3D2001 = 5969

Quite a difference with 3D2001. Not so much with 3D2000.

As soon as I figure out the best way to O/C this puppy I'll post those results in this thread. Can anyone suggest an easy & free OCing utility? Or will Coolbits work with Win XP? Thanks.

Wow - I must being doing something wrong. I've got the K7S5A and a 1.4 Athlon and I only get 5100 or so under 3dmark 2001 using Win2K with this card (maybe its the memory - I don't have PC2100)

Coolbits works under Win2k, but if it doesn't under XP you can always use this program (it's free - I'm not sure its easy)

I got AOE2 and can't find the rebate either. On the Gateway page, it clearly says that the rebate expires Dec 31, 2002.

I'm guessing that these boxes are just older than the rebate is, so they don't have it. Why MS doesn't just put it on their rebate site for download I have no idea....

Ok... just to share my experience...

First I went to gateway, selected the video card, $185.95
Since I know Gateway is in California, I went straight to the
check out page so they can calculate my tax $13.95 and
shipping $7.69 to a total of $207.59. Then I thought, hey,
it's already over $200, so I punched in the rebate code, and
to my surprise, it worked, bringing the total down to $157.59

However, I received an email telling me it's backordered. Since
I still see it being in stock on the website, I called in. The nice
rep told me that my original distributor doesn't have it anymore,
and she was going to cancel this one for me and enter a new order
for me for a different distributor. For some reason, because she
entered the order for me, it no longer has any sales tax, and she
still gave me the $50 discount... to a total of $143.10.

Blessing in disguise... I just thought that I'd share with you all.

Just received e-mail from Gateway today and Asherton's Call is no longer available, so they refunded amount and prorated discount from $50 down to $45.70. Still a great deal as I didn't really need the game.
