Visiontek 4850

The way that I understand it, any modifications to this board will void the lifetime warranty...i.e. replacing stock HSF w/ an aftermarket cooler or overclocking. What about changing the speed of the fan?

As far as I know, right now you cannot change the speed of the fan. But once you can, I seriously doubt that will void the warranty. It never has before I don't think.

Limited Lifetime Warranty

Products Covered:
ATI Based Retail Packaged ?VisionTek? or ?VisionTek Xtasy? Brand 3D Graphics Accelerators except those covered under other VisionTek Warranty Policies

VisionTek Products LLC, (?VisionTek?) is pleased to warrant to the original purchaser (?Warrantee?) of the graphics card (?Product?), that the product will be free from manufacturing defects in material or workmanship for the lifetime of ownership of the product when given normal and proper usage. The provisions of this warranty shall not apply if, in VisionTek's sole judgment, the product has been subjected to incidental damage including but not limited to the following:

* Damaged while being installed
* Damaged by software or hardware by someone other than VisionTek or by motherboard incompatibility/design
* Damaged by tampering, user error, disaster, misuse, neglect, abuse, power supply, power application, alteration, repair, modification, a fix or replacement by an unauthorized technician that in any way affects its performance or reliability.

sounds like the BFG warranty.. not allowed to do anything to the card...

a slight overclock or change of the fan speed by software could not be detected by the manufacturer (BFG, Visiontek) anyway...

I bought a Visiontek HD4850, and here's why I'm not going with aftermarket cooling: Aftermarket cooling would void the lifetime warranty. However, if there really is a heat issue that damages the card, Visiontek is going to wise up sooner or later and start attaching better heat sinks. In that case, if my card dies, I'll just RMA it and they'll send me a replacement card with adequate cooling.

By the way JPB, as I and many others predicted, the 4870 will not take the crown from the 280 either (according to leaked benchmarks.) That must have been some wishful thinking on your part? So my quote in your sig was correct, and now you look like you are agreeing with me. Unless your justification now is Xfire, which is funny considering how adament you were a while back about the 4870. And nothing in my quote refers to price/performance, so that is a moot point as well. Cheers!

Since you can't seem to ever find the right thread or method to discuss your topics of choice and instead go wee all over unrelated threads, we're demoting you back to Kindergarten for a week. Please come back better potty trained.

What does this have to do with the 4850 warranty? Take it to PMs if you wanna argue with someone.

Buddy, take this pissing match someplace else. This isn't about Card v. Card but the warranty on the card.
