I hate to say it but thisis a crappy scanner even at this price. Got one last year for fre after rebate and got a full version of paperport software thrown in (which if it wasn't for the fact it was free and the software was free I woulda been really pissed). Anyhow the optics went out on the scanner in less then a motnh. I called and got it replaced and about 2 months later the optics on the replacement went out. Said screw it and gave up on it. I do NOT recommend this scanner unless it's free otherwise your throwing your money away. Go to Bestbuy or something where they have these on display you can see how cheaply made they are.

Nothing worse then a scanner that always comes up with a blank black scan after the optics go out

How sad, I loved my Visioneer paperport 3000 when I had it. It scanned great, as my first scanner it lasted nearly three years before I sold it. Now I have a Canoscan 620U, not as nice even with 36 bit at a higher resolution (the paperport was only at 600x300).
