I know in previous versions of Visio, you could probe the network and have it build a diagram of everything that it found. I can't seem to find that feature in Visio 2002. Is it gone? Am I missing something?

Thanks.

I don't know but I found that some of the DB diagram/SQL code generating features were cut out. MS apparently wants me to use VS.Net for that. So we chose to site license Visio based on the abilities of the previous versions, but MS would only give us 2002 which is crippled at doing the very thing we bout the license to do. Gah.

Speaking of VISIO, I know it costs about $200 (just for Standard stand alone version) and since I'm going through learning with Visio in my Cisco classes (it's not in the material, but my instructors think it's good to be proficient with it) I was wondering if there is an open source (free) version of softwre like Visio. I really don't want to have to get Visio in a not-so-legal way, and I don't want to have to get a loan just to by the software (college is expensive itself :) ) so maybe somebody out there has designed a free open source version just like with OpenOffce??? I probably doubt it, but it's worth a try. :) Thanx in advance.

There's several versions of Visio - The one you're referencing is Visio Enterprise, that has the SNMP discovery capability. You probably have Visio Technical or Visio Professional, which can't do the probing.
