Now all the RIAA has to do is get Visa/MC to hand over the names and addresses of all the customers (court order maybe?) who did business with AllofMP3.com and slap a few lawsuits against them for knowingly buying stolen music.

It should not be hard proving it, with all those financial records.

It would be hard to prove that that they knew it was stolen.

Ignorance of the law a way to get by it?

The RIAA will not be able to get to AllofMP3, it is only natural to assume that they will go after the people they can get, the Americans that bought from them.

Impossible - the riaa has no clue what specific music was bought from allofmp3. Without that, they can't sue for copyright infringement because they can't prove their copyrights were violated.

they can't prove you bought music at all, unless allofmp3.com provides that info.
you pay allofmp3.com to put that amount of money into your account. i could put $10 in there and never download a damn song.

Ignorance isn't a way to get by the law, but RIAA would have their work cut out trying to prove any users 'knowingly' purchased stolen music. RIAA also has stacks of IPs from filesharers; they pick and choose ones to pursue based on legal manpower, not lack of potential defendants.

I already discussed the AllOfMP3 situation with a lawyer friend back when I signed up with them a couple years ago. As remote as your chances are for getting slapped with a lawsuit if you're a filesharer, the chances are exponentially more remote for AllOfMP3 users. Why would RIAA's legal team pursue tougher cases when they have a basket full of easy ones right in front of them?

Yea, and people will be like, well, I knew downloading P2P was bad, so I searched the internet for a way to pay for music, and I found this site and paid for it. How was I supposed to know it was in Russia and illegal?

We paid for convenience and speed. Yes, there are others ways to get music, but not as fast, and way not as organized. Its all about the time value of money.

Well what I guess I am trying to say is, why not go with the alternative, which is paying for the music legally. I'm sure it is just as fast, convenient, and organized.

More expensive, and more restrictive (infested with DRM). No thanks.

because i can put the tracks from allofmp3 on any device i wanted...

and not restricted like itunes or wma drm

btw, i'm an apple itunes and ipod fanboi, and use itunes to purchase most of my music. i use allofmp3 for the hard to find tracks...honestly, if allofmp3 charged 99 cents per track, i would use them over itunes.

exactly i used it for the sheer convenience and the fact i could pick the encoding. If RIAA pulled their heads out of their collective asses, they'd realize that the best way to kill piracy is to drop prices to the point where people wouldn't bother searching the net for pirated music

If I would have know about this site earlier wow, I spent around $60 on music in the past month...

Artists see LITTLE TO NOTHING from CD sales. If you want to support your artist go to their shows.

Bye bye allofmp3.com

http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=5120

The official agreement noted that Russia has agreed to aid U.S. authorities in shutting down illegal websites such as those carrying bittorrent files or direct downloads of copyrighted music, movies and software. One of the main websites under target is AllofMP3.com -- a prime example of a website that connects users to copyrighted music free of royalties.

I hope that the Vlad does not hand over the credit card numbers of all the Americans that bought music from them to the FBI and the RIAA to go after people buying stolen goods.

Good point, Schadenfroh. If the FBI and RIAA put enough pressure on 'em though, I think he'd sing faster than a canary bird in a fur cage.

It does, the people who use the site are the dumbest people on earth. If you're going to buy music, buy it so the artist gets their fair cut. If you're going to screw the artist on what is essentially an illegal download, why pay at all? Just download it for free from a dozen other sources.

You have no idea how the music industry works do you?
I was about to say it but I was beat...

I can't fill my balance anymore! Credit cards are down (obviously) but I also don't get the PayPal option. This blows, I hate it when I can't easily break the law!

It is not illegal to download music. It is illegal to upload music without the rights to do so.
